✝️ Is Russell Crowe Okay?
His Choice of Roles has Been Strange Recently
The acting legend responsible for giving us grand performances, such as Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, and 3:10 to Yuma, has taken some interesting roles as of late…
There was Unhinged about a guy with road rage, Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder, which was essentially just a cameo, a few things last year that no one has heard of, and now, he’s The Pope’s Exorcist. If you saw the trailer and had to sum this thing up, you’d probably explain it as something along the lines of an attempt to commercialize a fictional horror movie by injecting some action in the vein of Constantine. And that would probably be pretty accurate except that Crowe plays a non-fictional character in this… so maybe it’s more akin to Lincoln: Vampire Slayer than Constantine but either way, it’s seems strange to us.
All that being said, a recent interview with Crowe appears to show that the guy is just going for what he finds interesting at the time and delving into artistic territories that he has not before.
Unfortunately for Crowe, The Pope’s Exorcist releases in theaters this weekend alongside Renfield, another movie of supernatural disposition. Renfield is a comedy starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula and Nicholas Hoult as his indentured servant. Our feeling is that audiences are going to opt for the laughs over Crowe’s strange miss-mash of horror and action. Either way, we’ll report on the results in our next newsletter.
